Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23 When someone has heart problems... a doctor will usually provide a specific regimen for them to follow. It can include a specific diet, exercise and a manner of living, that is intended to preserve or restore their hearts to better health. However, it is up to the patient to follow that program dutifully... if they expect to see any improvements with their physical health. They must be diligent in making heart healthy decisions. It isn't always an easy task but if someone wants to live... they will make those changes. The same is true with our spiritual hearts... we must faithfully keep our feelings out of the "facts"... that keep us in line with the Word of God. We must make it a point to declare the Word of God in our lives everyday. We must keep our thoughts on those things which are true, honest and just. We must think on what is pure, lovely and of a good report. (See: Philippians 4:8) In doing so we can be sure we are walking in the spirit and not our own flesh. As our relationship with Jesus lines up with the Word of God... we will begin to know him more fully and intimately. Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Titus 2:14 There are times when I just sit... and I ponder in amazement all that Jesus has done for me. Often I have to take a step back and think... Have I done my best for Him? Have I given my all for Him?? Does my life truly reflect what He has given for me? It doesn't please me when I realize I've fallen short of my mark and so much more when I grasp how He must feel when He sees my weaknesses. However, Jesus is always there to forgive me and to pour out His love on me. This world does not understand such love for humanity... and quite frankly there are times when I can't either. I just don't know if I understand the total sacrifice that was made for my life or anyone elses. Salvation is free and it is offered to anyone who would accept it, yet in all that was given... the world still seems a big part of who we are. Jesus offered himself as a sacrifice to free us from a dark and rebellious life. He came so that we His children might live a separate life... apart from this world. So it begs this question... am I more like Jesus... or am I more like the world?? Lord, please help me to evaluate my life with honesty... and give me the strength to live a life that is pleasing to you at all times. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devises to pass. Psalm 37:7 Life can be difficult... it can be downright hard! However, we can make it worse... or we can "CHOOSE" to make it better. I use to struggle with my life... I use to wrestle with my thoughts until I was in a frenzy and there seem to be no end in sight. So besides going through a tough time... I was creating more anxieties by dwelling on things I had no control over and could not change on my own. We can't worry about evil people... who seem to prosper in their ways and we can't fret about their wicked schemes. I finally understood that to walk with God... was to Rest in Him... knowing that ONLY He was truly in control of my life. He would walk with me through the good and the bad times... He would be my rest and my strength and all I had to do was trust Him to keep His word. I have to say that, "He has kept His Word!" He has been with me and He has been my comfort and strength. I have a measure of peace that I never thought possible and it's not because I am trouble free. I have struggles that still befall upon me. However, my rest and trust come directly from God... I do not sit and sulk or stew over what is upon me. I choose to put it into Gods hands and wait for the answers that I KNOW He will bring. So I must ask you today... "Are you fretting or resting on your journey in life?" Once again my computer has failed me. I am working on a "dinosaur" now... so I will be posting blogs from the past by request. Without truly meditating on this verse... we casually learn that we should just "love one another." But, consider this... we are told not to just love one another... but that we should love one another as Christ Jesus loved us! Oh, that brings so much more to the equation. Christ's love is so much more than we can even begin or imagine... the way we should love. Our love usually tends to be conditional... even with family and spouses... not to mention our friends... and when those conditions are not met... we tend to stop our flow of love. Our love stops flowing over silly little petty things, compared to what God's Word says... about how He loves us. We tend to give up so easily on the people in our lives. Our giving up leads to major consequences... such as the break down of families...divorce... bitterness... violence... and on and on I could go. God's love never stops flowing... the Bible specifically tells us that NOTHING... NOTHING can separate us from the love of Christ. Not tribulation/(adversities)... distress/(anxieties)... persecution/(torment)... famine/(hunger, death)... nakedness/(uncovered emotionally)... peril/(danger). These are not little things... and these are not simple misunderstandings. Tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness and death are all major things that might give us the right to give up on someone... but God tells us "No, this is not enough for me to stop loving you the way I do!" God's Word goes on to tell us that not even death, life, angels, principalities, powers, present things, or things to come... no height, no depth, no creäture on earth can stop the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. See: Romans 8:35 to verse 39. If we have Christ in our lives... and we are walking in the spirit and not the flesh... our love should never stop flowing. Just the opposite... our love for people should be constantly overflowing... constantly giving and constantly looking for the good in the people we associate with. So... How's your love life? Is it based in carnal earthly love or are you rooted in God's love? But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Luke 6:35 A doctor quickly entered the hospital after being called in for an emergency consult. He immediately changed his clothes and then went directly to the Emergency Room, where he saw a crowd of nurses and doctors working on a young man. He also saw the boy's father walking back and forth in the hall, waiting to hear how his son was doing. Upon seeing the doctor, the dad yelled, "Why did you take all this time to come? Don't you know that my son's life is in danger? Don't you have a sense of responsibility?" The doctor could feel his pain and simply said, "I'm so sorry! I wasn't in the hospital when I received the call. However, I came as fast as I could... now, I need you to calm down so that I can do my work." "Calm down?!! What if your son was in the Emergency Room now? Would you calm down? What if your son might die now, what would you do, what would you say?" the father asked very angrily! The doctor smiled and replied, "I will say, what is said in the Holy Bible, From dust we came and to dust we return, blessed be the name of God. As for your son, we will do our best, by God's grace to save him." "Giving advice when you're not concerned is so easy." the father murmured quietly. The doctor took some hours with the young man, before he came out happily and said to the father... "We can thank God! Your son will make it!" And, without waiting for a response from the father, he went on his way, running down the hall. As he ran, he shouted, "If you have any questions, ask the nurse." Perturbed, the father said, "You can bet on that, I sure will see the nurse." When he reached the nurses station he said, "Why is he so arrogant? He couldn't take five minutes so that I could ask about my son's condition?" The nurse softly answered, "His son was killed in an auto-mobile accident early today. He was at the funeral home when we called him for your son's surgery." - Author Unknown God calls us to love one another! To be full of compassion, empathy and understanding... just as Jesus was. And, we are not called to love... just those who love us in return. We are called to "love our enemies!" That's a tall order, by any means! Still, we never know what someone is facing or dealing with. So kindness towards one another is essential to our own peace of mind and especially in our walk with the Lord. As Christians we are "to go that extra mile," even with those who do not treat us well. It's not easy at times, but life isn't always easy. By faith, take some time today to bring a little hope or joy into another's life. Maybe it's a stranger or someone you know, who could use that smile or visit. Ask the Lord to lead you to someone. Life is so short... loving the unlovely may just give someone the will to go on. Let's challenge ourselves today and in the coming weeks. Lets show this world "what living for Jesus, truly means!" |
